waterproofing agent.
The water resistance of formulations containing
SOLTEX™ OPT were measured using a water
resistance test developed by IMS.
The test
employed the In-vitro™ Skin as the
substrate for the SPF
measurement and water resistance testing.
The samples were
exposed in a water bath at 40ºC for
80 minutes, which is more
rigorous than the in vivo water resistance
test specified by the
FDA monograph of May 1999.
The results show that all of the formulations
with SOLTEX™ OPT
demonstrate greater than 80% water resistance
after 80 minutes,
in some cases, matching or exceeding the
control formulation, a
commercial SPF 30, water resistant sunscreen
(run twice).
