SunSpheres™ SPF
Boosters*
"Hollow Sphere" technology
comes to sun care. SunSpheres™ hollow sphere technology
is a new way to optimize sunscreen performance. It boosts
the efficiency of active sunscreen UVB and UVA absorbers,
but is inactive by itself. SunSpheres™ has become the
key formulating tool in creating higher SPF sunscreen products
(SPF > 15).
How SunSpheres™ Work
SunSpheres™ hollow spheres utilize the principle
of light refraction to alter the path of ultraviolet energy
and increase the chance that it will encounter (and be absorbed
by) sunscreen UVA/UVB actives in the product film. The more
energy absorbed by the actives, the greater the protection
from UVA and UVB damage.
Proof Positive
Extensive testing, in vitro as well as in vivo, has
shown that SunSpheres™ technology boosts SPFs as much
as 50 to 70%.
Performance, Aesthetics and Cost Benefits
The ability of SunSpheres™ to boost the performance
of UVA/UVB actives offers a way to maximize the efficacy and
reduce the concentration of active sunscreen absorbers, while
simultaneously providing an opportunity to reduce overall
formula cost. Furthermore, SunSpheres™ allow the formulator
to design more aesthetically pleasing products.
Effective, Compatible, and Safe
SunSpheres™ work equally well with organic and
inorganic UVA/UVB absorbers, and are compatible with a broad
range of cosmetic ingredients, including emollients and skin
conditioners.
